Like an old Friend features the words and music of old friends Richard Knechtel and John Gardiner … John will read from his memoir about growing up & coming of
age in the small town of Hanover, Ontario during the 1950’s & 1960’s … Richard will perform a collection of heartfelt stories & songs gathered over a lifetime lived in music …

Richard Knechtel and John Gardiner grew up three blocks apart and had rival garage bands back in the 1960’s in the small Ontario town of Hanover – Richard has been busy since then as a singer/songwriter and children’s entertainer, building a solid career in the music business…. John has been busy writing since the 1960’s, both in newspapers and through his fiction.

Now the two “old friends” will be performing together in a show called, “Like an Old Friend”, taking its title from the name of one of Richard’s original songs. The performance will take place on Thursday, May 11 at 7:00 p.m. at the Minto Arts
Gallery, 88 Mill Street, Harriston
.

Gardiner will be doing readings of his work during the show, mostly from his recently published literary collection, My Lefthanded, Backwards, Upsidedown Life & Assorted Short Stories, which contains a memoir of his growing up years in the small Ontario town of Hanover, back in the 1950’s and ‘60’s, a period of significant social change.

Knechtel has a large body of work to call on for presentation during the performance. He has written many heartfelt, sincere songs over a long career stretching back to the 1960’s and he has also covered many great artists, plus created some very colourful alter-musical egos over the years….he is the consummate musical performer.

There is free admission to the show, but donations will be gratefully accepted by the Minto Arts Council to support that group’s efforts in the community.
