About the Artist

Bev is primarily a watercolour artist who enjoys teaching and plein aire painting while travelling abroad. Her work is based upon drawings from art journals, photos, observation and imagination. Her watercolour approach varies with each reference. It is the effect of light that she is after. Light can make even the humblest subject beautiful. Her hope is that anyone who views her paintings can experience the excitement and vision that she had while creating them. Bev as an artist, teacher and mentor, continues to grow, explore, experiment and learn through her own experiences and from her students.

Bev lives and works in Hanover, Ontario. As a full-time artist, she teaches workshops in her home studio, local libraries, art conventions, Southampton Art School, and on work holidays on cruise ships. Her interest in the visual arts began early but was always put aside. After juggling two careers for 29 years. Balancing art, workshops and hospital employment as a Medical Laboratory Technologist. June 2015 became an epic year of retirement from one career. To full-time as an artist. Mainly self-taught, she began taking watercolour classes from Lin Souliere. Who became a close friend and mentor while living in Stratford, Ontario.

After moving to Hanover, she and five other artists joined forces and formed a local artist group “Saugeen Artists”. To promote and support each other in art shows, guest speakers and events in November 2006. From those early beginnings, this group has evolved to 36 members. It is becoming a not-for-profit organization that actively encourages arts and culture in the community.

Inspiration Not Far From Home

Bev began teaching watercolours on cruise ships, as a way to enjoy a work holiday with her love of painting and travel. Queen Mary 2 Round trip Transatlantic Crossing in 2015 (New York to the United Kingdom and return to New York). Azamara Journey cruise line in 2016 (Panama Canal crossing). Queen Mary 2: Eastern Caribbean voyage November 2017. Celebrity Summit in May 2018. (Bermuda) Azamara-Journey cruise line in 2019 (Barcelona to Miami). Queen Elizabeth: Alaskan Cruise 2023.

Because of the recommendation of these travellers, Bev began teaching February 2016 on-line watercolour classes on udemy.com. As of November 2022, she has over 8200 students enrolled. For her it’s an honour to be a small part of the inspiration to encourage others, who try their hand at painting!
